This exclusive guided tour will take the first house built by Antoni Gaudí, a house with an unusual oriental and Mudejar aroma, covered with spectacular green and white tiles. Gaudí work that anticipates, well, modernism in Catalonia.
The Casa Vicens was built between 1883 and 1885 as a summer house projected by a young Gaudí of 31 years for Mr. Manuel Vicens i Montaner (1836-1895), exchange and stock exchange broker. It is the first Gaudí building in Barcelona and where he could display his great talent.
At the Casa Vicens, Gaudí recreated in a very personal way the figurative worlds in vogue at that time. The house is supported by the Catalan constructive traditions, of which the architect makes unexpected interpretations, at the same time that incorporates, decorative and symbolic elements in a personal way. All of this already announces and demonstrates the creative freedom that will be present in all his future work.
Beyond being one of the starting points of Gaudí's work, at Casa Vicens, the architect creates an innovative and original work that differs from what had been previously built in Catalonia. The Casa Vicens is one of the first examples of the aesthetic renovation of art and architecture, which took place in Europe at the end of the 19th century. It is the eighth building in Barcelona cataloged as a World Heritage by UNESCO and the last one to be opened to the public.
The visit ends at Casa Vicens. Staying on your own in the quiet neighborhood of Gracia that is well connected with public transport.
