Departure from Barcelona in a comfortable coach to the mountain of Montserrat, which majestically reaches the height of 4,051 feet (1,236 meters).
The rocks of Montserrat are a natural sand cement that for centuries have been modified by wind and rain, which is why they have such a strange and varied shape. The popular imagination has seen human or animal forms in some of its peaks, giving them names and inventing legends to explain their fantastic origin.
Visit to the Basilica of Montserrat, which houses the Romanesque carving of the twelfth century, the Verge Moreneta (the Black Madonna). The sanctuary of Montserrat Benedict was founded in the year 1025 and offers a mystical backdrop of the Virgin of Montserrat, patron saint of Catalonia, who is consecrated in the Basilica of the monastery. The small monastery soon began to receive pilgrims and visitors who contributed to the dissemination of stories of miracles and wonders performed by the Virgin. Today, Montserrat has been modernized to continue serving the needs of pilgrims a thousand years after its foundation.
You will have free time to visit the audiovisual room where images of the history and creation of the monastery are projected. The exhibition is based on three fundamental pillars: the mountain, the monastery and sanctuary. And you can also taste the typical liqueurs created by the monks of the monastery.
The choir of Montserrat is one of the oldest choirs of singing children in Europe (14th century). The days that there is singing you can admire its magnificent performances, although you must reserve a place in advance in order to avoid the risk of not getting a place. The calendar of performances is subject to the school calendar and to special events of the choir and the monastery.
